On Friday 22nd RRLab participated to the "Nacht, die Wissen schafft" with its collection of robots.
Many people have come to the lab. From young children, interested to science and engineering, to adults, curious about the recent progresses in robotics. The first welcome was given by the two "butlers" MARVIN and ARTOS, that were silently moving between the audience, the second carrying chips and biscuits.
Main attraction of the evening was Robothespian, the talking humanoid used in research about human-machine interaction and emotion recognition. It got quite a lot of interest from visitors thanks to its interactive games and funny gags. The two SUGV brothers were shown. The older one moving its arm and the younger one was open to show the inner electronics.
Three big vehicles were visible: the new Gator, inside the lab, with the full sensor system scanning the environment and showing the visualization on two big screens. RAVON was just outside the lab and the old Gator was lying in the courtyard. A big test bench was set to show the structure of the humanoid leg that is under development together with its actuators and a foot prototype.
The person detection algorithm has been show as well as the Octocopter and the two climbing robots CROMSCI and CREA. Other PCs were showing simulations about our robots and a selection of videos.
