Robotics Research Lab

NaLamKI

Sustainable Agriculture via AI

Project Description

The NaLamKI project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), aims to create a cloud-based software-as-a-service platform with open interfaces for providers from the fields of agriculture and service providers in crop production. To this end, field condition data will be obtained using satellites, drones, soil sensors, manual data collection and crop data.

This data can then be fed into an "International Data Space for Agriculture (IDSA)" via GAIA-X compliant services. The aim is thus to make agricultural processes such as irrigation, fertilization and pest control more modern, sustainable, efficient and transparent.

At the Robotics Research Lab at TU Kaiserslautern, sensor data from fields will be collected by using autonomous agricultural vehicles and combined with data from other sources using modern AI methods.

The results of the project will be shown on 8 demonstrators, with the Robotics Research Lab playing a major role in the following:

  • Demand and point-accurate fertilization and application of crop protection measures and area-specific plausibility checking of soil moisture using AI on arable land and grassland.
  • Inspection of orchards
  • Distributed inspection of potato and lettuce fields
