Daniel Schmidt studied computer science at the University of Kaiserslautern from 2000 to 2006. He wrote his diploma thesis concerning behavior based control mechanisms for autonomous exploration in structured environment of an indoor robot at the robotic research lab. Since April 2006 he was a PhD student of the department of computer science dealing with a reliable controlling architecture for climbing robots. He finished his PhD about safe navigation of a wall-climbing robot in January 2013. In September 2013 he changed to industry where he works in the area of research and development.
