Terraforming Heavy Outdoor Robot

Beschreibung

Das Projekt hat das Ziel Konzepte für die Automatisierung von Arbeitsmaschinen für die Agrar- und Forstwirtschaft sowie für den Einsatz im Baubetrieb zu entwickeln. Im Rahmen dieses Projektes sollen Konzepte aus der mobilen Robotik auf Baumaschinen übertragen und Unternehmen in diesem Bereich zugänglich gemacht werden. Als konkreter Anwendungsfall soll die autonome Steuerung eines Mobilbaggers der Firma Volvo CE, Konz behandelt werden. Ziel ist es, Teilaufgaben mit hoher Komplexität für den Fahrzeugführer ohne dessen Eingriff autonom ausführen zu können.

Das Autonome Mobilbagger Projekt THOR (Terraforming Heavy Outdoor Robot) verfolgt das lanfristige Ziel einen 18 Tonnen Mobilbagger (VOLVO EW-180B) vollautonom Landschaftsformungsaufgaben durchführen zu lassen. Dazu wird die reale Versuchsmaschine mit elektrohydraulischen Steuerventilen, Längenmesssensoren, Drehratengebern, Laser-Scannern und kraftvoller PC-Hardware ausgerüstet.

Da der reale Bagger enorme Grab- und Hubkräfte von einigen Zehntausend Newton aufbringen kann, entsteht für Menschen und Gebäude in der Umgebung ein enormes Gefahrenpotential. Um sicher und kostengünstig die implementierten Algorithmen testen zu können wurde daher eine realistische Simulations- und Testumgebung erstellt, welche ein naturgetreues Modell des Baggers selbst und seiner möglichen Umgebung beinhaltet. Mittels einer Physiksimulation wird das Verhalten der Maschine selbst und ihre Interaktion mit dynamischen Objekten in der Umwelt adäquat berechnet.

Bisherige Roboter sollten gerade nicht andere Objekte berühren oder gar beschädigen. Aus diesem Grund bestand bisher keine Notwendigkeit deformierbare Objekte oder Partikelsysteme in die Simulationsumgebung zu integrieren. Beim autonomen Mobilbagger geht es nun gerade darum einerseits mit den Umweltsensoren (Laser-Scanner, Kameras) Oberflächenveränderungen zu erkennen und andererseits auf Auswirkungen des Erdreiches auf die Maschine zu reagieren. Um das simulierte Testen zu ermöglichen, wurde eine Partikel-Erdsimulation erstellt welche die parallele Rechenkraft moderner Grafikkarten mittels der OpenCL Schnittstelle nutzt.
