Robotics Research Lab

Sascha Klein studied Applied Computer Science with a specialization in Ambient Systems at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern from 2012 to 2018 after completing his vocational training as an energy electronics technician. Already in his bachelor thesis with the topic "Evaluation of tree trunk detection algorithms" he dealt intensively with robotics. The aim of the thesis was to identify tree trunks from three-dimensional point clouds so that they could later be used for navigation. Different approaches were compared. Already after his bachelor thesis, he worked parallel to his studies at the Robotics Research Lab. He finished his studies with his master thesis on "Navigation of an autonomous bus in a pedestrian walk". In his thesis an approach was developed to navigate through a crowd with an autonomous bus. The approach should avoid constant stopping and still not endanger pedestrians.
