Virtual Demonstrator

The project "Construction Site of the Future" at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau has set itself the goal of creating a virtual development environment (Virtual Demonstrator) that can be used to simulate typical construction processes using different building materials and construction machinery in a realistic manner. The Virtual Demonstrator is based on the Unreal Engine and is designed in such a way that it can be used to investigate the automation of construction processes without having to set up a real construction site at great expense.

An initial prototype has already been developed, which allows the following tests to be carried out:

• Test autonomous and automated construction machinery

• Determining the condition of the construction site using virtual sensors

• Construction of modular units/components:

• Import and export of assemblies from specialist description formats

• Composition of construction components, construction machinery, other objects and virtual construction workers for a large construction site

• Resource and process planning
